Description

Via the announcements on USAJobs: https://www.usajobs.gov/job/778292300 and https://www.usajobs.gov/job/778293000, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is accepting applications from meteorology students to work as summer interns under the Gateways Internship Program.

The internship will run through the summer of 2024, with the intern expected to work full time or near full time. The internship will be in person, with the person reporting to the office in Washington, DC at least four days within a two week pay period. The intern may have the opportunity to continue interning with the division through May 2025 on a part time basis. Furthermore, an intern may be converted from the Internship Program to a permanent appointment without further competition in accordance with established policy after graduation, although not guaranteed. See the announcement on USAJobs for further details.

While other groups within the FAA may select a meteorology intern, the Aviation Weather Division (AWD) will select at least one intern. The AWD conducts activities to enhance weather support to aviation interests and/or to mitigate the impacts of weather on the National Airspace System. The intern will learn about the FAA, the AWD, and their functions, and conduct a small research study that supports AWD activities. The intern may be asked to assist with various weather research projects, revamping and updating weather requirements and research processes, and assist AWD personnel with the execution of their duties.

Refer to the USAJobs postings for additional information. Applications will only be accepted through USAJobs, do not submit applications through this AMS notice.

Requirements

See the job announcements at USAJobs for requirements and qualifications:

https://www.usajobs.gov/job/778292300

https://www.usajobs.gov/job/778293000

Applicants must apply to the program through the USAJobs website. Applicant must be a degree-seeking student enrolled at least half-time in an accredited educational institution and remain enrolled a minimum of half time throughout internship. Graduating seniors will be considered if they are planning to attend grad school in the fall of 2024. Must be a U.S. citizen. While applicants to the Gateways program can be at any stage of undergrad, the Aviation Weather Division will only consider rising seniors or graduate students due to the technical nature of the position. However, other divisions within the FAA may consider applicants at other stages of education.

These positions will be in person with work performed at the duty site in Washington, DC, so the accepted applicant should live in the Washington area or be willing to relocate during the summer. Be advised the Washington, DC metroplex is expensive to live in so please take that into consideration when applying. Up to six days of telework per a two week pay period may be authorized at manager discretion in alignment with office policy and work requirements. While there is no required travel for this position, an opportunity for limited travel for mission-specific events may occur.

The last day to submit an application is 11:59 PM Eastern time on 11 March 2024. Ensure you have submitted all required documents including transcripts. Many students have been disqualified in the past because their transcripts and other documents were not included in their applications.

Questions regarding the planned duties of the intern and/or the functions of the Aviation Weather Division can be sent to Randy Bass at [email protected]
